A little history...
In the decade of 2000
(2000-2009)
Lighthouse – Beacon of Hope, Inc. worked with five private schools and hundreds of families helping students improve their learning abilities by implementing the philosophy and programs of Structure of Intellect (SOI) – Assessing and training abilities for success in learning.
We experienced great success with the students and families we served. Our operations were decreased by the economic struggles at the close of the decade, and we moved into teaching positions while working with Lighthouse after school hours.
The 2010 Decade
The 2010 decade afforded us experiences in private, charter and public schools in both leadership and pedagogy capacities.
We focused on special education, working with students who had difficulty grasping concepts quickly. The additional experience reinforced that what we were involved in the previous decade was truly vital for today’s students.
Near the end of this decade, we knew we needed to return to the roots in Structure of Intellect (SOI), relationship building and trauma sensitivity. SOI is an educational philosophy that involves the whole person in the intellectual process of learning. It is a foundational program that assesses the innate abilities of students as it relates to the intellect (thinking, reasoning, memory, comprehension, creativity) – abilities needed for sound learning. We have incorporated in this program relationship building and trauma sensitivity to benefit the whole individual.
The Program has an 85% success rate in improving the experience of students who struggle with learning.
We have recently added a Consulting division of our operation that focuses on training and mentoring classroom teachers and/or aides to effectively work with students whose experience with trauma and adverse circumstances are impacting their behavior, social interactions and academics.
