Her eyes are doing what?
In 1st Grade, my daughter struggled with recognizing words, reading was a struggle and we could not identify the reason. We tried the normal avenues of helping – including a tutor – but the problems persisted. Through the SOI assessment, the cause of the problem was identified.
My daughter’s visual system was weak, her eyes were not teaming together and not aligning to read a line on the page well. We were given the choice of consulting with a developmental ophthalmologist for visual perceptual assessment or beginning Lighthouse’s developmental plan. We began Lighthouse’s plan, but visited the doctor. The doctor approved and supported Lighthouse’s assessment of the problem. He also suggested a visual / perceptual plan very similar to theirs, so we stayed with Lighthouse because we loved the personal care we received.
During the three years we worked with Ms. Kris my daughter ‘s reading skills improved greatly and she gained self-confidence in her abilities. She is graduating from High School this year and we are thrilled!! Thank You Ms. Kris and Lighthouse for helping us through this storm.

I’m reading better now!
I was having a hard time at school. When we read books, the words would look all jumbled, and sometimes they would move around and off the page.
I never said anything to anyone, because I thought that was normal. It was frustrating though, and my mom knew something was not right because I kept squinting and rubbing my eyes when I would read. So someone told her about Lighthouse. Ms. Kris and Ms. Sherri were fun to work with. I had to do some strange activities and exercises, but after awhile my mom realized I was not squinting as much, I was reading better and was not as frustrated as before. I continued working with them for about two years, and now,
I am reading so much better. The words are not jumbled or moving around. I am able to attend to reading for over 30 minutes at a time, and I am enjoying reading. Thank You Lighthouse.

It is paying off...
My daughter was having difficulties in school. 3rd Grade is pivotal and she was not grasping the concepts, not able to organize herself, her reading and math skills were low. A family member recommended Lighthouse since her kids were already working with them, and gaining good results. During the 3 years that we worked with Ms. Sherri, both our girls improved their reading and math scores.
They attended the Summer Programs also and strengthened many intellectual skills that have kept them successful over the years. The girls are now in Middle and High School maintaining excellent grades. I am grateful to Lighthouse for their expertise and care with my girls.

Hope in the Hurricane
I described my early childhood as a hurricane. I lost my mom when I was 3, my dad and stepmom were addicted to drugs, and my brother and I pretty much raised ourselves.
When I was 11, I went to live with my Grandmother for a while, but came back to live in a chaotic home. I was having a lot of trouble in school and I could not get Math at all. Ms. Sherri and Ms. Kris took me ‘under their wings’ and worked with me diligently. Lighthouse became my rescue place after school. I was able to do my exercises and it was helping me. I began to gain confidence in trying things that looked difficult and was actually getting it right. Before, I would just not do things I thought looked difficult.
I am so thankful for the work Lighthouse did with me when I was younger, it has made me a stronger, more confident learner. I am now working a job that requires Math:)
